I’m not sure where to put this so, “general category” it is!
I had one heck of a time getting my student connected to my class AI Assistant in both my math (statsitics) course and my compsci (discrete strustures) course.
My compsci is moving forward with using the tool for assignmetns but my math course it left a sour taste in their mouths and they are balking a little.
I’m planning on an AI Assistant activity for our class this evening. I’m hoping the more I encourage it the better they will feel.
I really feel like this would be so much better embedded in Canvas. Additionally, I know more about connecting students. With that said, I’m not sure if the data for my stats course is going to be valid.
Should I hold off sending data for Stats until spring or should I continue with the fall group? Keep in mind this is only an 8-week course and we are in the 5th week).
Hey @Lynn_at_Coalinga ! Thanks for your feedback I’m curious to hear more about why your math students didn’t take to Nectir AI? What do you think the key factor was that left the sour taste in their mouth?
Also, totally agree that this needs to be embedded inside of Canvas—we’re working on that now and hopefully should have it ready for you soon!
@ethan any thoughts on the question regarding data for spring/fall?
Hey @Lynn_at_Coalinga! We have you marked down as participating in the spring 2025 pilot program. We’ll be reaching out towards the end of the spring term with more information on submitting grades to the CCCCO.
The main challenge was the connection process. It took nearly 2 weeks (in an 8-week course) to get all students connected. Sending invites to their school emails often failed, and I had to provide direct links instead.
Question: If students connect using the direct link will I still be able to see the analytics for all students?
This connection struggle, not the actual use of Nectir, is what left my math students frustrated. Once connected, their experience with the platform itself was positive.
As a first-time AI Assistant user this term, I expect things will improve next term because:
I’m now more knowledgeable and comfortable with the system
I’m learning to leverage the AI Assistant for creating activities and assignments (today’s feedback session was extremely helpful!)
Integrating AI components throughout the course will help students become more comfortable using it
The key will be making AI access seamless for students by eliminating these initial connection barriers.
